Above Ground Swimming Pools

I may be a bit partial, but I think above ground swimming pools are a great way to provide relatively inexpensive entertainment for your family. I don’t personally have anything to do with the sales end of swimming pools in “real life”. In fact, I did not have a swimming pool at all until I was grown up and married. My wife was the one who had grown up with a family swimming pool and once we decided to have kids, she knew that she wanted to have a pool.
To be honest, I was a bit resistant to the idea of getting a swimming pool. There wasn’t any real reason for it. I guess I just imagined that it would be another chore for me to be responsible for completing. My wife told me that she’d handle cleaning the pool because she actually found it relaxing. That hasn’t lasted so much, but we split the pool cleaning duties and it really isn’t that bad.
I decided to put up this site to share what I’ve learned with anyone who might be thinking about getting a pool or who is looking for some answers to pool related questions. I can’t help too much with in ground pool information, but I’ve learned a lot about above ground swimming pools. I’ve learned things that I wish someone had told me beforehand and I’m still learning things each season. I guess I’m just sharing what I’ve learned, so take it for what it is worth. If you have any major pool issues, see a professional.
Now, back to why I like owning a swimming pool. If you’ve got kids, having a swimming pool is great. It gives you a chance to hang out and play with them without having to deal with crowds of strangers. I don’t have anything against other people, but when you have little ones, you don’t want to spend your time worrying that they will be knocked down by some overly enthusiastic teenagers having their own good time. In my experience, swimming in your own pool, on your own property is a much more relaxing experience than dealing with a visit to a public pool.
One of my arguments against getting a pool was the cost. It actually has turned out to be not so bad of a deal. We were able to pick up a used pool for a very nice price. We did have some expenses involved with getting the property ready (see the other posts), but if we had been paying for a membership to a pool over the last few years that we have owned this pool, the cost would have been considerably more than we spent on our pool and its set-up.
Of course there are a lot of questions that pop up in your mind whenever you are thinking about getting a swimming pool for your home. A big one for me was the cost. Going with an above ground pool instead of an in-ground made that a lot less of a concern right off the bat. Comparing the cost of the two is like comparing apples and oranges. The installation and maintenance of an above ground pool is also much less daunting. You will have some things to think about like swimming pool covers, getting the right pool filter, buying a ladder that you like and maybe even installing a swimming pool deck if that interests you. It really is not that bad of a process though when you are dealing with an above ground model.
So anyway, I hope you will find something of interest here. I appreciate your visit. If you are undecided, you will probably get the idea pretty quickly that I’m a happy swimming pool owner. I don’t have any interest in selling anything, but I do think I have some information that might help you. I’ve learned a lot of new things over the last few years and I still thoroughly enjoy owning an above ground swimming pool.
